Iran sending warships to US maritime borders

The FARS news agency has reported that several Iranian warships are making their way towards the United States’ maritime borders. Sailing towards the Atlantic via the southern African coast, this latest development has been in the making since 2011 when it was first announced that Iran would send a message to the US. For two years the imperial empire, know euphemistically as “America”, has been staging war games in the Persian Gulf with the 5th fleet, stationed in Bahrain. This is viewed by Iran as a direct threat to their national sovereignty. In 2011 Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari stated:

“Like the arrogant powers that are present near our maritime borders, we will also have a powerful presence close to the American marine borders…”

There is no doubt that the warmongering psychopaths in Washington will perceive this as unacceptable. What an outrage! How dare those backwards Iranians sail towards the United States. Don’t you see, this is why we need to bomb them into submission, otherwise they will march onto our terrestrial borders and impose Sharia law! While this is a dangerous iteration of the ongoing tit-for-tat fight with Iran it also provides the people of America with a great opportunity to learn. For years various people have posed thought experiments about how we would feel if a foreign nation began building bases near our border. Now this thought experiment has become a reality. My only hope is that the average person will not take this as an opportunity to ramp up the war rhetoric and will instead come to understand that our global military might is a great menace to our well being and liberty. Rather than making us safer it has made us more callous and arrogant. If the notion of Iranian war ships off of our maritime borders scares you, then perhaps the reverse scare the Iranians. Perhaps the complete dismantling of this barbaric institution know as the military and a committed adherence to peace may be the best answer.

Iran’s Navy wants to exert prestige and regime hardliners want to show the US that they retain significant influence. Moreover, the imagery and narrative of Iranian vessels off the US coast is a powerful one. At least in propaganda terms. Correspondingly, Iranian state media are using these claims as an opportunity to assert Iran’s presentation on the international scene. Power politics rely upon successful presentation.

I agree with pretty much everything that you are saying. My point with that post was to point out that the saber rattling of the United States has real repercussions. America can’t expect to hold war games right off the coast of Iran and not expect a response. These war games are designed to show Iran that the America is ready to violently overthrow the government in Iran. There is also a fair amount of propaganda involved in this. It makes the imperial United States look like a powerful and mighty nation that is always just in its actions. More to the point I do not believe war at all. So whether it is Iran or America sending warships to each others respected borders, I find both disgusting and destructive acts.
