PPR Bonus Podcast episode 16 Cambridge Analytica Rant with Tom Secker

Tom Secker of SpyCulture.com joins me for a discussion of all things Cambridge Analytica. We start off by talking about the recent Channel 4 expose of the company. Tom and I talk about what Cambridge Analytica is being accused of (sexual blackmail, using MI6 agents, manipulating voters) and ask the question is this really anything new? We also focus on James Bond villain Alexander Nix, his mysterious background, and his role as a modern day colonialist. We use Nix’s role in Kenya’s recent elections as an example.

Later we move onto the the purple haired “whistleblower Christopher Wylie and truly begin our rant. We talk about the major ethical problems with Wylie and his role within CA. Tom and I talk about the perception being built around Wylie, and how this doesn’t fit with his actual actions within the data mining company. We close out by talking about the way the liberal media has covered this story. Tom and I discuss how groups like Channel 4 and Hillary Clinton seem to think that the majority of the public are idiots that need to be protected from companies like Cambridge Analytica. We talk about the need for people to actually build defenses against manipulators and not simply vote or buy a certain product because they are “too stupid” to make their own decision.

PPR Bonus Podcast ep. 15 Kevin Gosztola on Reality Winner Motion To Suppress Statements

Kevin Gosztola of Shadow Proof joins me for an update on the Reality Winner case and the recent motion to suppress statements she made to the FBI. Kevin provides a quick summary of that Winner has been charged with, and the circumstances surrounding her interview/interrogation by the FBI. Kevin then provides us with his perceptive of the mood and town of Augusta, Georgia where the case is being heard. Kevin also talks about the intense security at the court house, and the difficulty he had in obtaining press credentials. We then dive into the hearing itself which lasted 5 hours. Kevin talks about what the defense brought up today and discusses the two FBI agents who were called up as witnesses. We talk about the prosecutions insane arguments, including the idea that Winner was a national security threat who might join up with the Taliban. Later Kevin and I talk about what the next steps will be for Reality Winner and the impending trial. Kevin also discusses meeting with Winners parents and traveling to her house where she was interrogated and arrested by the FBI.

PPR Bonus Podcast ep 14 Chelsea Manning and the Alt Right

I discuss the recent news that Chelsea Manning has been spending time with major figures of the alt-right movemnt. I discuss her attendance of Mike Cernovich’s “A Night for Freedom” party alongside Gavin McInnes, Cassandra Fairbanks, Jack Posobiec, and Stephan Molyneux to may a few. I talk about the story as it unfolded the night in question, and how the alt-right, left, and Manning attempted to craft a narrative. Later I discuss Fairbanks explanation and Manning’s claims that she was using Fairbanks to gather intelligence. I also point out that Manning has been photographed multiple times with alt-right celebrities.

Later I present several possible theories as to why Manning was doing this. I focus on the idea that she is still working for the government as some sort of asset. I also touch on how informing and gathering intelligence on anyone is a nasty business fraught with serious moral problems. The show ends with me talking about Manning’s hypocrisy, and why she is not a true hero for the trans movement.

PPR Bonus Podcast episode 11 To Play the King with Tom Secker

Tom and I are back for the second installment of our series on the House of Cards trilogy. This month we dissect the second series To Play the King. Tom and I look at the role of monarchy in Britain and the immense power it exerts politically. We explore how this is presented in the show, which the introduction of the newly anointed King, and his battle with Francis Urquart Tom and I talk about the fictional King and Queen’s real life counterparts Prince Charles and Princess Diana. We also discuss whether or not the monarchy should ever exercise it’s power to make political or economic change. We also take a look at how the show portrays other members of the royal family such as Quilly and the Fat Princess Charlotte.

Next Tom and I discuss the other major theme of this second series, the role of the security state. We talk about one of our favorite character Corder and his mysterious role through out the series. Tom and I talk about some of the real life events the show depicts, including the infamous assassination of three IRA members in Gibraltar in 1988 during Operation Flavius. We discuss how the security state represents the true power source of not only Urquart but of the whole of Britain. Tom and I also focus on Urquart’s use of false flag bombings and surveillance of the monarchy and virtually everyone else. We also touch on the bizarre parallels between the plot of To Play the King and the recent British elections and the wave of terrorists attacks including the London Bridge stabbing and Manchester Bombing. We also look at the strange similarity between this season and the Grenfall Tower fire.

We finish off the episode by once again asking if everything is about sex. We focus on Stamper’s possible unrequited love for FU and how this leads to his ultimate downfall.

PPR Bonus Podcast ep 10 House of Cards Series One with Tom Secker

The wait is finally over. Tom Secker and I are covering the House of Cards Trilogy. In part one of our three part series we introduce everyone to one of our favorite tv shows. We first discuss the setting of the show and the decision to portray the Tory Party in a less than pleasant light. Next Tom and I discuss our favorite characters, and go into depth on why Roger O’Neil is so amazing in those first series.

We then explore the shows use of sex and taboo topics such as incest. We talk about Mattie’s distressing Elektra Complex as well as Urquhart’s own aristocratic desires to sleep with his daughter. Tom and I discuss how this shapes both characters and contributes to Urquhart’s rise to power, and Mattie’s ultimate downfall. We also take a look at the media’s portrayal in the first series. Tom breaks down the strange relationship the media have with politicians in Britain. We close out by teasing the next series, To Play The King.

Quick Note: there are no spoilers for either To Play The King or The Final Cut. Tom and I also strongly encourage you to watch the first series before listening to this podcast.

PPR Bonus Podcast episode 8 Ng Lap Seng trial and UN Bribery with Matthew Russell Lee

This month I am joined once again by Matthew Russell Lee of Inner City Press. Matthew and I discuss the outcome of the Ng Lap Seng United Nations bribery case which saw six guilty verdicts. Matthew explains how this Macau based billionaire was involved in bribing UN officials such as former head of the General Assembly John Ashe, as well as fronting the money for a veritable fake news outlet South South News. We talk about many of the intricacies of the case including Ng Lap Seng’s connections to Bill Clinton. Matthew and I also focus on the way in which the UN has handled this corruption scandal. Matthew talks about their general response which has been to paint themselves and the UN as a whole as the victim in this case. The two of us also discuss the normalcy of bribery and corruption with in the organization.

Later Matthew tells us about his latest trials and tribulations with the UN. We discuss how he has no been relegated to operating out of a glorified phone-booth, and how his former office is being used by a journalist who never shows up. We discuss some of his recent work on the political situation in Cameroon. Later Matthew discusses the new Secretary General Antonio Guterres and ambassador Niki Haley.

PPR bonus podcast episode 7 How to Defeat Trolls

This month I discuss the issue of internet trolls, their irritating tactics, psychology, and my own methods for defeating them. I use a recent email I received from “Gary” as a prime example of a troll. I break down how I dealt with this situation and offer my own advice for how you can defeat the Gary’s of the internet world. I also discuss the reasons I believe people resort to this behavior, primarily focusing on the issue of loneliness and isolation.

Later I discuss whether it is ever justified to troll someone. I also talk about the times in which I myself have acted like a troll.

PPR Bonus Podcast episode 5 Under Siege 1986

For this special joint subscriber podcast Tom Secker and I discuss and dissect the 1986 TV movie Under Siege. Set in Washington DC the film revolves around a series of violent terrorists attacks carried out by a mysterious ill-defined jihadi group. The movie gives us an insiders look at how the government responds to the attacks, and attempts to solve the crime, and punish those responsible. The film depicts the FBI director up against the CIA and President who want all out war with Iran. Written well before 9/11 the movie was quite controversial at the time, and remains so today. Tom and I discuss the eerie similarities between the film and post 9/11 America. From TSA pat downs to CIA black ops, and war with Iran, Under Siege presents us with an amazingly accurate picture of where we are today as a society. Tom and I also discuss how the film manages to stand the test of time even to this day.
