Porkins Policy Radio episode 127 Jon Atack on Undue Influence, and the Open Minds Foundation

Jon Atack joins me again this week for another in depth discussion about cults, high control groups, and the dangers of undue influence. We begin by discussing the concept of being an “ex-Scientologist” or ex cult member in general. We talk about the stigma that this term carries and why it is unfair to categorize people in this way. Jon talks about the the term ex-Scientologist can become a negative defining characteristic of ones life. Jon also touches on the struggles that people go through after leaving a cult of high control group. Jon then defines the term undue influence and what it means in today’s society. We talk about how undue influence is much more complex and pervasive in our society than we may think. Jon and I then turn our focus to the undue influence of the school system and how it is damaging young people. We talk about how schools essentially create robots, and discourage independent thought. Jon also links this to adults desires to be obedient to an authority figure, even if that means inflicting pain and trauma on others.

In the second hour Jon and I talk about how we are all susceptible to undue influence and con artist’s. Jon talks about being nearly conned by scammers in India who allegedly wanted to fix his computer. We then return to the issue of children and young people and how they are continually the victims of predatory behavior. Jon discusses how predators can mean more than simply pedophiles seeking to abuse kids. Jon talks about the nasty every day predatory behavior of teachers, and the problems with the Western system of education. Later Jon and I discuss his recent work at the Open Minds foundation. Jon talks the foundations work in helping to better educate children about predators and toxic relationships. He discusses their work making short animations that will help to give young people a better understanding of the dangers out there. Jon also talks about how we need to better connect with young people through culture and popular cultural means. We also manage to touch on Stefan Molyneux, South Park, and Rick and Morty.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 118 Let’s Sell These People a Piece of Blue Sky with Jon Atack

This week I am joined by legendary Scientology critic and writer Jon Atack. We begin our conversation by discussing Jon’s time as a Scientologist from 1974-1983 where he attained OT level 5. Jon discusses his disillusionment with Scientology in the 1980’s and the process by which he left the group. Jon also speaks about the the abuse he faced after leaving and the lengths Scientology went to after he published Let’s Sell These People a Piece of Blue Sky. We then move onto Jon’s book and focus on the monumental achievement that it represents in terms of laying out the true history of both L Ron Hubbard and Scientology. Jon and I explore who Hubbard truly was. I ask Jon why history has whitewashed much of Hubbard’s legacy in recent years. We discuss what motivated Hubbard to create Dianetics and form Scientology. Jon talks about Hubbard’s massive drug use and the role that played in his life throughout running the cult. Jon also touches on the theory that Hubbard suffered from temporal lobe epilepsy. We also talk about Michael Meisner’s infiltration of the IRS and Hubbard’s role in orchestrating this.

In the second hour Jon and I discuss the role of the Commodores Messengers. We talk about their power with in Scientology, and how they rose to essentially control the entire cult. I ask Jon about Janis Grady’s new book talking about her time as a Commodores Messenger alongside her brother and sister aboard The Apollo. We explore Hubbard’s use of children within the cult and also explore the allegations of child abuse by Hubbard. We finish the conversation by talking about Jon’s current work with the Open Minds Foundation. Jon talks about their mission and the work that they are doing in exposing cults, undue influence, manipulation, and brainwashing. Jon talks about how gangs, terrorists, pedophiles, sex traffickers, and many other nefarious groups all employ theses tactics in order to control those around them. We also talk about how we as individuals are under constant attack from those wishing to exert undue influence and ways to combat it.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 104 Jeffrey Augustine on Scientology’s connections to Jim Marrs and conspiracy culture

Jeffrey Augustine joins me once again for an in depth discussion of all things Scientology. We begin by touching on Leah Remini and her headline making TV show Scientology and the Aftermath. We talk about her recent Television Critics Association award for best reality series and what a huge step this is in exposing Scientology to the world. Jeffrey and I also touch on Elizabeth Moss, who walked out of the award show in protest over this. We discuss the role that celebrity Scientologists play, and how these recent exposes have changed their attitude. Next Jeffrey and I discuss the latest Scientology front group Scientologists Taking Action Against Discrimination (STAND) and their social media campaign. I talk about my own personal experience with STAND on Twitter and Jeffrey talks about STAND’s crusade against Geico and other huge corporations.

Later we discuss the recent death of noted conspiracy researcher Jim Marrs and his bizarre connections to Scientology. Jeffrey and I discuss the claims made by Josh Reeves in his new documentary that Marrs himself was a Scientologist. Jeffrey tells us how several of Marrs books are included on the approved reading list for the cult, and Miscavige’s praise of Marrs’ work. We dive into how towards the end of his life he was taking Scientology money while hocking Battlefield Earth for the church. Jeffrey explains how Scientology flirts with the conspiracy culture and why many Scientologists are drawn into that world. Later Jeffrey and I address many of the myths surrounding the allegations that L Ron Hubbard was a CIA asset. We discuss the problems we have with L. Fletcher Prouty’s claims and his own deep connections to the cult. Jeffrey and I touch on how Scientology can maintain this schizophrenic mindset where Hubbard can be both a CIA asset and an enemy of the CIA. We also touch on the early history of Scientology and Hubbard and how this led the CIA to warn countries about the dangers of Hubbard and his group. Jeffrey and I also touch on people like Ingo Swann and the conspiracy theories and culture with in Scientology itself.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 80 Aaron Smith Levin Scientology The Aftermath

Ex-Scientologist Aaron Smith Levin joins us once again to discuss the latest news regarding Scientology. Aaron begins by discussing his experiences on Leah Remini’s groundbreaking television series Scientology: The Aftermath. Aaron explains what it was like being interviewed and opening up about a dark chapter in his life and the trauma that Scientology brought down on him. Aaron also talks about the response from Scientology against Aaron, which has been in the form of his very own Scientology hate site. Aaron and I also discuss the significance of this new television series. Aaron explains how this is making a much bigger impact on the public; more so than recent documentaries like Going Clear. Aaron and I also explore the untold story of sexual abuse with the Church of Scientology. We delve into how the Church has covered this up time and time again. Aaron talk about several Scientology run schools, Cadet Orgs, and other related organizations where sexual abuse was going on and was covered up by Scientology. We also talk about the Office of Special Affairs practice of putting people “off lines” (barring you from doing services for the Church, but not kicking you out) after confessing to having sex with minors in auditing sessions.

In the second hour Aaron and I talk about what is currently going on in the upper management levels of Scientology. Aaron talk about David Miscavige’s latest power grab in his unending fight to control every single aspect of Scientology. We also talk about the strange case of David Miscavige’s wife Shelly, who has not been publicly seen for several years. Aaron offers his own theories as to where she is and her role with in Scientology, as well as why Miscavige may be using her as a distraction operation for people like Leah Remini and others. We address the rumors that Miscavige is sick, why he is never seen in public, and why Scientologists don’t get plastic surgery. We finish off by talking about where Scientology is headed and how the group can sustain itself given all the negative publicity it has garnered in the past few years. Aaron also tells an amazing story about driving next to David Miscavige recently down in Florida and Miscavige’s aggressive driving style.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 63 Legally Permitted Fascism: Jeffrey Augustine on Scientology

Today we are joined once again by Jeffrey Augustine of The Scientology Money Project and Surviving Scientology Radio. Jeffrey and I begin by discussing the actual intake process an individual goes through when first introduced into Scientology. Jeffrey breaks down this process from being approached by a “body-router” on the street, to your first auditing session and beyond. Jeffrey details the way Scientology uses four important and legally binding contracts to ensnare a new recruit. These contracts make it extremely difficult to sue Scientology, and essentially signify you giving up all rights to the cult. Jeffrey also explains the legal complexities of how Scientology operates as a franchised business. We talk about the legal definition of what a Scientologist is, and how the organization is structured, and why this is so important to them.

Later we look at how Scientology is evolving as a cult and the steps it is now taking to ensure its survival. We talk about how Scientology is desperately trying to portray itself as a humanitarian group through the use of various front groups. Jeffrey talk about how the group has begun to cozy up more and more to police departments through the use of their anti-drug groups. We discuss how this is all a cynical PR attempt to make Scientology look like a benevolent group while they continue to employ the destructive teachings of L. Ron Hubbard.
