Porkins Policy Radio episode 124 The Last Jedi with Emma Redmond

On today’s show my sister Emma joins me for a raucous review of Star Wars The Last Jedi. We kick off the show by discussing our general take of the film, mainly focusing on how much we didn’t like it. We then expand on this in our “trashing section” discussing all our major grievances. Emma and I touch on the force abilities of young slave boys, Luke’s strange “milking scene”, the existence of god, and the age old question: can you drop a bomb in zero gravity? We also talk about some of the hits and misses that director Rian Johnson introduced into the Star Wars universe.

In the second hour Emma and I discuss whether we are pro or anti-porg. We also touch on the idiotic belief that the porg storyline is some sort of vegetarian propaganda. Later Emma and I discuss the racist and misogynistic tendencies of some in the Star Wars community. We talk about why this is a pervasive problem with in the nerd fandom. Emma and I also talk about the backlash over new characters like Rose and Holdo, and how this is an overblown story that follow the typical liberal Hollywood narrative. I also talk about Fin as a classic black actor Hollywood troupe. We round out the Star Wars discussion by talking about the problems of commodifying the series under Disney. Emma and I touch on how Disney will most likely turn Star Wars into the next Fast and Furious series, and how this is the real reason people are upset with the film. We finish off by talking about our new favorite TV series Riverdale, and offer some predictions for 2018.

Porkins Great Game episode 17 The Unquiet Frontier

The wait is over! Christoph and I are back for another jam packed episode of Porkins Great Game. We begin by discussing the new direction that we will be taking the show in. Christoph and I explain why we will be focusing less on Central Asia and the Caucuses, and more on the the “global rimland.” We then move onto a discussion of the influential book The Unquiet Frontier by A Wess Mitchell and Jakub Grygiel. We talk about who Mitchell and Gryiel are, their careers at the Center for European Policy Analysis, and their current positions with in the State Department. Christoph and I then explore what is actually in The Unquiet Frontier and why it is such an important book. We talk about their theory of the global rimland and the policies that Mitchell and Gryiel lay out for the US empire. Next we talk about how these polices are quite identical to Trump’s foreign policy. We also touch on Trump’s recent foreign policy speech which appears to have been heavily influenced by The Unquiet Frontier.

Next Christoph and I talk about the recent political developments in Ukraine. We focus specifically on the recent assassination of Chechen fighter Timur Makhauri in Kiev. We talk about who Makhauri was and his complex history with Georgia and their security services. Christoph talks about the chaos that Ukraine has been plunged into since the US backed revolution. The two of us discuss how Kiev has been turned into a hot bed for Chechen terrorists, hitman, and all sorts of unsavory characters. Christoph also gives us his perspective as to what might be in store for Katharine in the near future.

We finish of the episode by turning to our favorite former Georgian Prime Minister Mikheil Saakashvilli, and his recent troubles in his adoptive home of Odessa. We chronicle Saakashvilli’s rise and fall as governor of the Odessa Oblast. We focus on his bombastic nature and his clashes with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Chistoph and I then move onto Saakashvilli’s insane arrest in Kiev, his escape from a police van, and his eventual re-arrest. We talk about what this means for Saakashvilli in the near future, and how his fate is identical to every other authoritarian leader who has aligned themselves with the US.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 122 The economy, Bitcoin, AI, and Christmas with JP Sottile and Aaron Franz

Friend of the show JP Sottile joins me in the first hour for an in-depth discussion about the recently passed tax reform bill in the House. We talk about what this reform package is promising and what the possible outcomes may actually be. JP discusses how this will ultimately benefit the richest of the rich in America, while most likely punishing the rest of the nation. We analysis the GOP’s strategy with pushing this wildly unpopular bill. JP and I discuss the idea that this may be part of a longer term strategy of ousting Trump from power. JP touches on Bannon’s attempts to tax the rich more and how this was rebuffed by the Republican establishment. Later we talk about how this may result in the GOP being out of power for some time. We then move onto a discussion of Bitcoin and how this has become the story that everyone is talking about. JP and I link this in with the tax reform bill and the financialization of the world economy. We talk about the idea of Bitcoin being a bubble and the logical result of our highly financialized world. JP and I also touch on the creepy transhumanist aspects of Bitcoin. We talk about the transhumanists behind Bitcoin, and how the embrace of it maybe a prelude to more transhumanists transitions. We end by briefly talking about Trump’s bizarre water drinking habits, and the rumor this is related to possible drug use.

I start off the second hour by talking about my show being reported in major news outlets including the Palm Beach Post and Daily Mail. I discuss how the mainstream media reported on my interview with F Lee Bailey and Pat McKenna, and some of the positives and negatives. Later good friend Aaron Franz joins us to discuss some of the strange occult aspects of Christmas. Aaron talks about the winter solstice’s connection to Jesus and the story of Christmas. Aaron and I also touches on the occult nature of buying a Christmas tree itself. We talk about strange ancient Greek castration practices under evergreen trees. We talk about the life and death ritual of buying a Christmas tree. We then move onto the most recent news stories about AI, focusing mostly on Sophia, Ben Goertzel, and SingularityNET. Aaron talks about Goertzel’s role within SingularityNET and his promotion of the BlockChain. We also talk about the strange rise in acceptance of sex robots and how this could be a pernicious development for society as a whole.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 121 F Lee Bailey and Pat McKenna on OJ Simpson and Criminal Justice

Today we are joined by private investigator Pat McKenna and legendary attorney F Lee Bailey for a discussion of OJ and the criminal justice system. We begin by discussing some of the recent media reports about OJ that have come out in the tabloid press. The three of us address these bogus claims that OJ was thrown out of the Cosmopolitanism hotel in Las Vegas. Lee also tells us about his background in the Marine Corp and how he became one of the most famous trial lawyers. We then move onto some new research by Brian Heiss looking at a forgery in Nicole Simpson’s dairy. We discuss how Fred Goldman helped lobby California’s legislature to allow the diary and the forgery into the civil trial. Lee gives us his legal perspective about the civil trial and the ways in which it was conducted. He talks about the numerous instances in which false information was introduced as evidence, and how this has convinced many that the civil trial was the “good trial.” We explore how the media treated the criminal jury and how this influenced the civil juries verdict. Later Lee and Pat discuss the criminal trial itself. Lee talks about his cross examination of Mark Fuhrman. He talks about the moment he knew he had caught Fuhrman in his own web of lies. Pat and Lee also touch on how Judge Ito wouldn’t allow several witnesses who were willing to testify that Fuhrman was a virulent racist.

In the second hour Lee and Pat discuss their book project which deals with both OJ’s criminal and civil trials. They talk about how their book will differ from the plethora of OJ related books. Lee in particular touches on several important aspects that will be included in the book that were not widely know during the trial. Lee and Pat discuss the continued importance of truly understanding this case, and their hopes for the future generation. Lee also talks about his own theory as to the motive of the murders: a drug killing that meant to target Faye Resnick. Later Pat and Lee discuss the school they have founded for teaching investigative skills. Lee talks about the need for teaching trial lawyers how to turn facts into evidence, and how many lawyers are not fully equipped to carry out investigations. Pat talks about a similar problem facing private investigator’s and what he will be teaching. We also talk about the role that Hollywood has played in crafting our understanding of criminal justice. Lee talks about the problem that show’s like CSI have had on the criminal justice system. We round out the show by talking about some of the problems with forensic evidence. We talk about things like shoe print analysis and how that played a role with OJ and the infamous Bruno Magli shoes. We also touch on the problems with hair and fiber analysis.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 120 Decline of the US Empire with JP Sottile and Death of Saleh in Yemen

JP Sottile of NewsVandal.com joins me in the first hour to discuss the decline of the US empire. We begin by discussing the continued decline of the US media. JP and I touch on the the ways in which the US media (particularly TV) has become ever more enamored with the cult of celebrity. We discuss the ways in which the TV talking heads will obsess over a single tweet by Trump while actual real news is happening all around us. JP and I speculate over the reasons for this trend, and why the media loves to distract us with “news items” about presidential tweets. We also touch on the lighting speed with which the news cycle now runs at. Later JP and I talk about the decline of US dominance globally and how this may explain why we are seeing so many violent conflicts erupting across the globe. JP focuses on the numerous crises in the Middle East, and how they are being exploited in order to stave of the eventual death of both the US and Saudi Arabia.

I begin the second hour by briefly touching on the arrest and escape of former Georgian President JP Saakashvili. I then turn my attention to the recent murder of former president of Yemen Ali Abduallah Saleh. I give a brief look at the recent history of modern Yemen and how it has continually been used by regional and world powers. I also talk about the Arab Spring which ousted Saleh and his return to power in 2015 with the Houthi movement. I then explore the Houthi’s and attempt to explain some of the complexities surrounding their political movement. The issue of Iranian support for them is also explored. I finish off by discussing my displeasure with some of the political rhetoric from left which appears to be supporting war against Saudi Arabia. I talk about the problems with choosing sides in any war and Yemen in particular. I also talk about how this still fits into the US/Saudi narrative of their being a “good” and “bad” side in this war.
