Porkins Policy Radio episode 190 Black Budget with Folie a deux

This week Folie à Deux joined me to discuss Black Budget, the new comic series he wrote and illustrated. The discussion opened talking about the comic itself, which addresses mind control and MK Ultra. The history of MK Ultra and other government-sponsored programs fill the discourse and the book. We also discussed how this topic is covered in the alternative media and conspiracy culture. Later some of the hidden messages and Easter eggs throughout Black Budget are revealed. We also talked about the 1983 invasion of Grenada and the subsequent bombing of a mental hospital which some have suggested was a site of mind control experiments. Also discussed are the connections between Grenada and Jim Jones and many more real life easter eggs.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 175 John Potash Drugs as Weapons Against Us

Writer and filmmaker John Potash joined me to discuss his latest documentary Drugs As Weapons Against Us. We talked about the main thesis behind the film and the original book. We discussed about the CIA’s involvement in the LSD movement in the 1960’s with groups like The Brotherhood of Eternal Love and the Mellon Hitchcock family. John talked about how this connects to the CIA’s MK Ultra program. We touched on how the CIA and their connected groups used LSD to derail and destroy leftist and revolutionary organizations throughout the 60’s and 70’s. John talked about how Students for a Democratic Society was torn apart by the deliberate introduction of LSD to the group. Later we talked about how various government informants pushed the use of cocaine on Black Panthers such as Huey P Newton. John and I also discuss how drugs were used against radical musicians including Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, and Tupac Shakur. We finish off the conversation by looking at the continued legacy of many of these operations. John talks about the work that the Heffter Institute and Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies are doing and their similarities to MK Ultra.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 169 Lucien Greaves and Joseph Flatley on Satanic Panic, ISSTD, and False Memories

This week I am joined by journalist Joseph Flatley and Lucien Greaves the co-founder of The Satanic Temple. The three of us talked about the dangers of the recovered memory movement, the ISSTD, and the role that the conspiracy culture plays in this. Lucien discussed what the Satanic Temple does as an organization and why it is interested in exposing Satanic Ritual Abuse for the pseudoscience that it is. We discussed several high profile cases involving the ISSTD, including the murder of Jude Mirra by his mother Gigi. Lucien talked about Gigi’s use of the ISSTD’s Dr. Ellen Lacter. We talked about Lacter’s role in Jude’s death and how the ISSTD handled it. We we also discussed why so many of the psychiatrists and mental health professionals that employ these dangerous methods are still able to practice medicine. We also touched on conspiracy figures such as David Shurter and Fiona Barnett who have made whole careers out of spreading lies about satanic ritual abuse. We round out conversation by talking about how the satanic panic has evolved over the years.

PPR ep. 166 Satan Goes to the Mind Control Convention with Joseph Flatley

From LennyFlatley.net

Satan Goes to the Conspiracy Convention is an investigation into the role that conspiracy theories play in American life and the current political climate. The story begins with the author crashing a convention for therapists who promote recovered memory therapy, a discredited (and dangerous) form of therapy that conjures up “memories” of past lives, extraterrestrials, and government mind control operations. From there, the reader will meet Pizzagate enthusiasts, conspiracy entrepreneurs, Satanists, flat-earthers, and people who believe that the Boston Marathon Bombing was a government “false flag” psyop. The story ends on the streets of Pittsburgh during the recent synagogue shooting and its aftermath. Ultimately, the book says, right-wing conspiracy culture is an authoritarian confidence trick that will only get more dangerous over the coming years.

PRAISE FOR SATAN GOES TO THE MIND CONTROL CONVENTION

“Joseph L. Flatley goes where few journalists dare to tread: into the heart of America’s conspiracy culture. Sociopaths, quack psychologists, targeted individuals, flat-earthers, antisemites, one world government freaks—no moldy rock is left unturned. Reading this book, first you’ll want to laugh and then you’ll want to run home and lock your doors. Because it makes one thing very clear: America’s conspiracy culture is a lot less fringe, a lot more profitable, and a hell of a lot more right-wing and scary than most of us want to admit.”
— Yasha Levine, author of Surveillance Valley: The Secret Military History of the Internet

“Joe Flatley is that rarest journalistic observer of conspiracy culture: deeply informed of its history and lineages, perfectly rational, and just sympathetic enough to know when harmless eccentricity and justified paranoia bleeds into malevolent madness. In these investigations he is at his best, deep-diving into worlds of belief where the CIA, Satan and the Occult are the only forces that matter.”
— Alexander Zaitchik, author of The Gilded Rage: A Wild Ride Through Donald Trump’s America and Common Nonsense: Glenn Beck and the Triumph of Ignorance

“Nobody gets inside the minds of conspiracy theorists and other American oddballs quite like Joe Flatley. This book is a pleasure to read—and a little frightening.”
— Matt Stroud, author of Thin Blue Lie: The Failure of High-Tech Policing

“A haunting and intimate look into the darker corners of the conspiracy movement, Satan Goes to the Mind Control Convention explores the toxic practices used by groups who exploit and control people seeking help. Joseph L. Flatley clearly demonstrates the dangers they present to an America obsessed by conspiratorial thinking.”
— Pearse Redmond, host of Porkins Policy Radio and Open Minds On Air

Porkins Policy Radio episode 166 Satan Goes to the Mind Control Convention with Joseph Flatley

Journalist and filmmaker Joseph L Flatley joined me to discuss his latest book Satan Goes to the Mind Control Convention: Manchurian Candidates, Recovered Memories, and the Dark Side of Conspiracy Culture (and other stories). We start out by discussing why Joseph decided to write a non-fiction book this time around. Joseph also explained his precise definition of conspiracy theory and conspiracy theorists that is used throughout the book. Joseph and I then moved onto the topics that take up the first half of the book, the recovered memory community and the theory of wide spread Satanic Ritual Abuse perpetrated by the CIA and aliens. We focused on one of the leading charlatan’s in this field Dr. Colin Ross. We talked about the toxic practices that Ross and other employ on their mainly female victims. Joseph used the case of Roma Hart as a template to explain how Ross implants false memories of abuse. Later we talk about the creepier aspects of Ross’ “therapy” which infantilizes women and turns them into children. Joseph also touched on the role that Lucien Greaves and the Satanic Temple have done in exposing many of these dangerous practices. We also discussed Ross’ connections to Scientology.

Later we talked about the broader issues related to conspiracy theory that Joseph bring up in the book. We discussed the rise of right-wing populist conspiracy theory and the role that is playing in everyday life. Joseph talked about his idea that conspiracy theorists are the canaries in the coal mine of society. We closed out the conversation by talking about Robert Bowers and the Tree of Life shooting in Joseph’s native home of Pittsburgh.

The CIA and Hollywood episode 12 American Ultra

Adam from Themes and Memes is our guest to talk about the 2015 action comedy American Ultra.  We start by trying to define this film, which is an intense mixture of cartoonish ultra violence, CIA covert operations, romance, comedy and horror, looking at the dissociating nature of this blend.  The intentions of screenwriter Max Landis and the director Nima Nourizadeh are discussed and we ask whether they were reaching out to the CIA or trying to flatter them by making MKULTRA seem cool to stoners and young people.  We go on to look at the prominence of female and often maternal characters in modern spy fiction, particular in CIA-assisted productions and ask what difference this makes to how these films and TV shows portray the CIA as a whole, not just MKULTRA and similar experiments.

We also examined a bizarre weed-based marketing campaign for the film at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con and ask whether like the Pentagon and NASA, the CIA now sees Comic-Con as a key networking and recruitment opportunity.  The conversation rounds of discussing the director Nima Nourizadeh’s father Ali Reza, who bears all the hallmarks of being a CIA asset (complete with mysterious name changes and working for Voice of America).  The presence of footage of Langley and the prominent use of the CIA logo suggests that at the least the CIA were aware of American Ultra and approved use of these for the film, so we ask whether they were involved in the making of the film and if so, why.

The CIA and Hollywood episode 11 The Men Who Stare at Goats

Jay Dyer joins us for this episode where we analyse the 2009 comedy The Men Who Stare at Goats, loosely based on Jon Ronson’s book of the same name. It tells the story of a journalist who is inducted into the world of psychic soldiers during the Iraq war. The movie goes on to explain some of the history behind the First Earth Battalion, an experimental Pentagon unit devoted to developing a new generation of super soldier informed by the hippy and New Age movements. We examine what the film leaves out, especially in the form of MKULTRA and similar CIA projects and experiments with similar aims, and ask whether the purpose was not to ask ‘How could love and peace help win wars?’ but to weaponise New Age philosophy and the New Age movement.

The Men Who Stare at Goats is the final movie in the George Clooney/Grant Heslov series before they took the full plunge and made Argo with the help of the CIA. We look at whether Goats – Heslov’s directorial debut – was the final step in their long-term overture to the CIA. The fact that Goats reduces the CIA’s involvement in such projects to a single scene, and was distributed by none other than Overture Films are strong hints towards this. We also map out the evidence and implications of state sponsorship of the entire Goats project, from Ronson’s original book and documentary series through to the Hollywood version. The use of technical advisors who were part of these Pentagon units back in the 70s/80s and who were ‘reactivated’ to help fight the War on Terror implies that at least the DOD, if not the CIA, were in favour of this film. We round off by pondering the plausibility of the remote viewing phenomenon.

The CIA and Hollywood episode 2 Robert DeNiro

Guillermo Jimenez joins us for this episode to talk about Robert De Niro – a man whose relationship with the CIA spans two decades.  We look at four films – Wag the Dog, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers and The Good Shepherd, the latter three of which have documented CIA assistance in their production.  We discuss Robert De Niro’s transformation from a serious dramatic actor into a kooky comedy figure, and the CIA’s apparent involvement in that.  This led to us asking whether the three comedy films are trojan horses for a sneaky CIA agenda, and talking about how The Good Shepherd has many flaws but this did not stop the CIA themselves from praising it as ‘probably as good as any film on the Agency’.
