Porkins Policy Radio episode 139 Syria Strikes, Skripal Poisoning with JP Sottile and Robbie Martin

JP Sottile joins me in the first hour to discuss the recent airstrikes by the US, UK, and France in Syria. We discuss how this is nothing new for the Trump administration, and how in fact this latest airstrike comes almost on the anniversary of Trump’s earlier strike after the alleged use of chemical weapon. JP and I also discuss how this latest attack appears to have targeted three sites which were completely evacuated and probably were known of in advance. JP talks about the theater that was involved in this latest military action, including Trump’s idiotic use of the phrase “mission accomplished.” We then break down the media’s hyping of this event as a prelude to WWIII. JP and I present several reasons for why this is nothing more than bluster meant to drive traffic on websites. We also explore the notion that this is really the last hurrah of the American Empire. We talk about the decline of US power and their inability to maintain such a large global empire. I talk about the how France has begun filling this imperialist vacuum more and more in Africa.

In the second hour Robbie Martin joins me to breakdown the ever changing narrative of the Skirpal poisoning. We talk about how this fits into the larger context of what we are seeing geopolitically particular with regard to actions in Syria. Robbie talks about how Theresa May wove Skirpal into her decision to help bomb Syria over the weekend. Later we move onto the latest explanation which comes from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that the Skripal’s were exposed to BZ. Robbie explains what BZ is and the history of the US governments experiments with the chemical. We also mention the State Department cable that mentions the possibility of BZ having been used in Syria. The bizarre claim by former KGB operative Boris Karpichkov that Skripal is connected to the murder of GCHQ’s Gareth Williams is also discussed. We end by talking about the danger of these sorts of operations and the rhetoric that is produces within society.

PPR Bonus Podcast episode 16 Cambridge Analytica Rant with Tom Secker

Tom Secker of SpyCulture.com joins me for a discussion of all things Cambridge Analytica. We start off by talking about the recent Channel 4 expose of the company. Tom and I talk about what Cambridge Analytica is being accused of (sexual blackmail, using MI6 agents, manipulating voters) and ask the question is this really anything new? We also focus on James Bond villain Alexander Nix, his mysterious background, and his role as a modern day colonialist. We use Nix’s role in Kenya’s recent elections as an example.

Later we move onto the the purple haired “whistleblower Christopher Wylie and truly begin our rant. We talk about the major ethical problems with Wylie and his role within CA. Tom and I talk about the perception being built around Wylie, and how this doesn’t fit with his actual actions within the data mining company. We close out by talking about the way the liberal media has covered this story. Tom and I discuss how groups like Channel 4 and Hillary Clinton seem to think that the majority of the public are idiots that need to be protected from companies like Cambridge Analytica. We talk about the need for people to actually build defenses against manipulators and not simply vote or buy a certain product because they are “too stupid” to make their own decision.

PPR Bonus Podcast episode 11 To Play the King with Tom Secker

Tom and I are back for the second installment of our series on the House of Cards trilogy. This month we dissect the second series To Play the King. Tom and I look at the role of monarchy in Britain and the immense power it exerts politically. We explore how this is presented in the show, which the introduction of the newly anointed King, and his battle with Francis Urquart Tom and I talk about the fictional King and Queen’s real life counterparts Prince Charles and Princess Diana. We also discuss whether or not the monarchy should ever exercise it’s power to make political or economic change. We also take a look at how the show portrays other members of the royal family such as Quilly and the Fat Princess Charlotte.

Next Tom and I discuss the other major theme of this second series, the role of the security state. We talk about one of our favorite character Corder and his mysterious role through out the series. Tom and I talk about some of the real life events the show depicts, including the infamous assassination of three IRA members in Gibraltar in 1988 during Operation Flavius. We discuss how the security state represents the true power source of not only Urquart but of the whole of Britain. Tom and I also focus on Urquart’s use of false flag bombings and surveillance of the monarchy and virtually everyone else. We also touch on the bizarre parallels between the plot of To Play the King and the recent British elections and the wave of terrorists attacks including the London Bridge stabbing and Manchester Bombing. We also look at the strange similarity between this season and the Grenfall Tower fire.

We finish off the episode by once again asking if everything is about sex. We focus on Stamper’s possible unrequited love for FU and how this leads to his ultimate downfall.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 100 Manchester Bombing Updates with Keelan Balderson

Keelan Balderson of WideShut.co.uk joins me again to discuss the latest developments in the Manchester Bombing case. We begin by briefly discussing how the bombing has evolved as a news story, and they way it is being perceived in the U.K.  We then move onto the latest developments in the actual investigation. Keelan and I talk about the authorities back and forth narrative of this being a lone wolf attack or part of a larger plot. We talk about the police recently stating that there could have been multiple people who knew Salman Abedi was going to bomb the arena. The two of point out how this is yet another change in direction after the authorities released over a dozen people suspected of being involved in the attack. Keelan also gives us the latest details coming out of Libya. He talks about the claims being made by the RADA militia that Salman’s brother Hashem has confessed to buying the parts for the bomb while in Manchester visiting. We also touch on the claims that Salman Abedi was sent to a bomb making school in Libya by his father. Keelan and I again touch in the deep connections that Abedi had to British intelligence, and ponder if the Libyans are attempting to hide these details. Next we take a look at claims made by the bizarre “NGO” Quilliam, which stated that Abedi learned how to make construct the bomb from a YouTube video. Keelan also touches on the stranger claim by Qulliam that the chemical TATP was used in the bomb. We point out that this is yet another in a long series of claims which have sought to connect Manchester to 7/7. We also look at a recent David Shayler interview where he asserted that Salman’s father Ramadan is the infamous “Tunworth” who was tasked by MI6 with trying to assassinate Gaddafi. We also touch on the fact that Abedi met twice with a convicted Libyan terrorist in prison in the U.K.

In the second hour we take a closer look at the two recent inquests into the victims and Abedi’s deaths.  Keelan first explains what an inquest entails, and what we can except to learn from them. Keelan tells us all about this new diagram of the bomb blast which contains a series of interesting new claims. We explore why the diagram does not show where Abedi’s body was discovered, and the inclusion of more victims. Keelan also points to the diagrams revelation that a CCTV camera appears to have been pointed exactly where Abedi set of the bomb. The two of us ask the question as to whether this footage will show Abedi detonating the device, or if we will ever even see the footage. Keelan and I also talk about some of the other CCTV images that have come out in recent weeks and speculate as to what they might represent. We end the conversation by exploring the notion that Manchester is part of a larger Gladio style operation happening predominantly in Europe. We talk about the rise of the right wing and attacks like the one at the Finsbury Park Mosque and how this relates to a new Gladio. Keelan and I also ponder what might be next.

Porkins Policy Review episode 96 Keelan Balderson on the Manchester and London Attacks

Keelan Balderson of WideShut.co.uk joins me today for an in depth discussion of the recent terror attacks in Manchester and London. We begin by looking at the initial narrative that the media presented to us and how that quickly began to change within days of the event. Keelan discusses how the narrative had many of the hallmarks of the 7/7 Terror attacks, such as prior knowledge and security monitoring, slipping through the net, and the calls for internal reviews by MI5. Next to take a closer look at Salman Abedi’s family and the claims that they were Libyan refugees. Keelan talks about the Salman’s fathers ties to the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and the LIFG’s close relationship with both MI5 and MI6. We discuss how the British government has long funded and protected the LIFG and used them time and time again as a proxy force against former Libyan leader Gadaffi. Keelan and I also talk about the fact that as Home Secretary Theresa May signed off on orders allowing LIFG fighters to freely move around the UK and Europe. Keelan and I then move one the bombing itself and focus on several key pieces of evidence that have emerged. We look at the mysterious CCTV footage of Abedi buying tuna fish, almonds, air freshener, and scouring pads, and ask the question: if this the shopping list of a man who thinks he is about to die? The two of us also discuss the blacked out image of Abedi that has made the rounds in the media and again point out that this doesn’t really prove anything. Keelan also dives into the curious admission that the bomb Abedi used may have been equipped with a remote detonator, therefore begging the question of whether Abedi was an unwitting suicide bomber. Keelan and I explore the idea that Abedi could have been part of a much larger plot. We also talk a out several bizarre eyewitness reports, and well as conflicting forensic evidence.

In the second hour Keelan and I address Abedi’s families response to the bombing. We talk about his fathers allusion to this possibly being a false flag, as well his brothers flat out statement that he knew his brother was a terrorist. We then move onto some of the political responses to the attack. Keelan discusses May’s renewed efforts to control the internet with ever increasing draconian laws aimed at preventing this very attack. We also touch on the idea that this attack in many ways mimics Gladio style operations in places such as Italy in the 1970’s. We then move onto the London bridge attack and take a look at the attackers connections to another terrorist group with deep ties to British intelligence, al-Muhajiroun. We then look at how this is effecting the upcoming British election in just a few days. We finish off by looking at how the MSM and alt-media has completely accepted either blow-back or the right-wing narrative that Muslims are all evil. Keelan and I also touch on the recent severing of ties with Qatar by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the UAE, and how this may be playing into the ever evolving narrative of the war on terror.

The CIA and Hollywood episode 8 The Quiet American

In this first episode of the new season Pearse and I discuss the 1958 spy drama The Quiet American, adapted from the novel by Graham Greene.  We focus in on the role of Air Force and CIA officer Ed Lansdale’s relationship with the film-maker Joseph Mankiewicz, and how the CIA were involved in assisting Mankiewicz the first major American movie to be filmed in Vietnam.  Mankiewicz met Lansdale in Vietnam while doing research for the movie and, apparently unaware that Lansdale is one of the inspirations for the Pyle character in the original book, befriended him.  Lansdale later reviewed the script and wrote to Mankiewicz encouraging the changes he had made to the storyline and characters.

Another angle is Graham Greene’s transition from an MI6 agent in World War 2 to an anti-establishment author who was spied by the FBI for supposed Communist affiliations.  We look at how his original novel of The Quiet American was an excellent critique of post-WW2 American imperialism, secret warfare and so-called ‘humanitarian interventions’, which was butchered in the Hollywood version.  In particular the character of Pyle is turned from a bookish, virginal ‘war nerd’ into the charming all-American version played by real-life war hero Audie Murphy.  Likewise, while the original book has Fowler’s worst suspicions about Pyle being proven right (Pyle is sponsoring terrorism), the film changes this so Fowler is fooled by the Communists into betraying Pyle.

We round off this episode by briefly discussing the far superior (and not state-sponsored) 2002 film version directed by Philip Noyce and starring Michael Caine and Brendan Fraser.  This version is not only better written, acted and directed but is also, crucially, a faithful adaptation of the original book.

Porkins Great Game ep. 8 Proxy War in Transnistria

We start this month’s episode by looking at the recent escapades of our good friend Mikhail Saakashvili. We begin by looking at Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko’s appointment of Saakashvili as governor of Odessa. Christoph and I discuss how this corrupt war criminal will now be in charge of a politically and economically important region of Ukraine. We also touch on the tricky game that is being played with Saakashvili and his Georgian citizenship. Later we focus on why Saakashvili was chosen to rule this region, focusing mostly on the bordering pro-Russian breakaway state of Transnistria. Christoph explains how Saakashvili may be part of a concerted effort to foment a proxy war between the West and Russia by using Transnistira as a staging ground. We talk about the deportation of Russian troops by the Moldovian government, as well as the placement of anti-aircraft missiles on the border between Ukraine and Transnistria.

Our second story is a look at the political situation in Azerbaijan. The unending tit-for-tat fight between Azerbaijan and the US continues, as the Caucasus nation yet again cracks down on pro-western forces. Christoph and I also take a look at the European Games which are being played right now in Baku. We discuss how Azerbaijan has used the Games as a pretext to ban both Amnesty International and the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe. Christoph also updates us on recent pipeline-politics developments in Azerbaijan.

For our third story we turn once again to the Northern Afghanistan and the increased fighting going on there. We break down some of the recent victories the Taliban has had over Afghan forces throughout Badakshan Province. The once untouched region is now slowly falling bit by bit to Taliban fighters, while the West continues to downplay the security situation in the North. Christoph and I also update our listeners on some of the recent peace talks taking place in Xinjiang between the Taliban and the Afghan government, brokered by Pakistan’s ISI. We end this section by looking at recent defections of Taliban fighters to ISIS and how ISIS is slowly becoming the dominant force in Afghanistan.

We close out this month’s episode with two bizarre stories that touch on ongoing Gladio operations. First we talk about the most recent high profile ISIS fighter to emerge, Tajik commander Gulmurod Halimov, what he might actually be up to and the similarities between him and other Gladio/CIA operatives. We finish off with an interesting terrorism case in London that had to be stopped when it became clear that MI6 was arming and funding the very group the state was going after.

The CIA and Hollywood episode 2 Robert DeNiro

Guillermo Jimenez joins us for this episode to talk about Robert De Niro – a man whose relationship with the CIA spans two decades.  We look at four films – Wag the Dog, Meet the Parents, Meet the Fockers and The Good Shepherd, the latter three of which have documented CIA assistance in their production.  We discuss Robert De Niro’s transformation from a serious dramatic actor into a kooky comedy figure, and the CIA’s apparent involvement in that.  This led to us asking whether the three comedy films are trojan horses for a sneaky CIA agenda, and talking about how The Good Shepherd has many flaws but this did not stop the CIA themselves from praising it as ‘probably as good as any film on the Agency’.

Porkins Policy Radio episode 24 Who is Samantha Lewthwaite?

This week’s episode was a long time in the making, but it is one that I am especially proud of.  I had on Tom Secker and Jon Ryman to discuss Jon’s superb film White Widow- The Samantha Lewthwaite Conspiracy.  I would encourage everyone to go and watch the film first, as there is so much detail that Jon goes into.  The three of us discuss the origins of Samatha Lewthwaite; from her birth in Northern Ireland during the troubles, to her “conversion” to Islam and subsequent betrothal to 7/7 bomber Germain Lindsay, and later to her supposed place of importance with in Al Shabab in Somalia.  We explore the notion that Lewthawaite may not have ever been in Kenya, one of her alleged bases of operations, and instead may be part of a much larger and complex intelligence operations.  We also discuss the Westgate shopping mall attack and how Lewthawaite was erroneously connected to it, as well as the geopolitical implications of the recent uptick in violence in Kenya and the African continent in general.  We round of the conversation with a look at how the War on Terror has blurred fiction and reality.  This is another long podcast that deals with a subject that is little understood and deserves more attention.

The Disappearing, Reappering Terrorist by Tom Secker

Excellent article by the invaluable Tom Secker of Investigating the Terror.  Secker discusses the mysterious case of Al Liby and his connection with the MI6/CIA backed Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG).  Original article here

The Disappearing, Reappearing Terrorist

8th October 2013

The Pentagon’s predictable response to the attack on the Westgate Shopping Centre in Nairobi has been a pair of special forces raids in Africa.  One was a Navy Seal strike in the Somali town of Barawe that sought to capture or kill Al Shabaab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane, though this mission failed.  The other operation took place in Tripoli where Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, better known as Anas Al Liby, was captured by commandos presumed to be Delta Force.  There are many reasons to question these stories, not least of which that Al Liby has reportedly been captured and in custody for decade.

I first wrote about Al Liby 5 years ago looking at him as a probable MI6-aided Islamist.  He was Al Qaeda’s ‘computer expert’ who in the early 1990s travelled around Africa scouting possible terror targets for Osama Bin Laden.  He was trained and accompanied by CIA triple agent Ali Mohamed and according to court testimony even helped take reconnaissance photographs for what would become the 1998 African embassy attacks.  As a result US authorities have been trying to get hold of him for nearly 15 years.

Meanwhile, in the early-mid 1990s he joined LIFG, the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group also known as Al Muqatila.  The group were trying to kill or overthrow Col. Gaddafi, a feat they finally accomplished in 2011 with the assistance of NATO.  According to ‘former’ MI5 ‘whistleblower’ David Shayler, MI6 had funded an attempt on Gaddafi’s life by LIFG in early 1996, an attempt that failed.  LIFG members fled Libya in the wake of the failed assassination attempt, setting up shop in the UK, including Anas Al Liby.  They published their newsletter from an office in London and for years after the embassy bombings lived in the UK freely.

That changed with set of police raids on addresses in Manchester in May 2000.  According to an old Observer report Al Liby evaded capture, though the Guardian is now adding the detail that he was questioned by British police in 1999 but not charged.  The article also notes how, ‘Liby’s skill in surveillance and special operations made him irreplaceable, Benotman said. Liby had been trained by an Egyptian-American jihadi fighter who had served with the US Green Berets.’  Of course, they do not mention that this Egyptian-American jihadi was also a CIA agent and FBI informant, and that his name is Ali Mohamed.

After the raids Al Liby left the UK, and following the 9/11 attacks LIFG were proscribed (banned) as an organisation by the UN and the US State Department, and then by UK authorities in 2005.  Al Liby himself was put on the FBI’s most wanted list where he stayed until a few days ago when he was captured outside his home in Tripoli.  The websites of the FBI and the State Department still list him as wanted and at large – I suppose it takes a few days to remember to update these things.

Making the whole story weirder is that as my prior article details, Al Liby was reported captured in 2002, though the reports contradicted each other on when he was captured (January, February or March) and where (Egypt, Sudan or Afghanistan).  An Amnesty International document from 2006 lists Al Liby as one of several ‘Individuals about whom there is some evidence of secret detention by the United States and whose fate and whereabouts remain unknown’, detailing his reported capture in Sudan in February 2002.  The report also spells one of Al Liby’s aliases quite differently to recent media coverage – Nazih Abdul Hamed al-Raghie vs Nazih Abdul-Hamed al-Ruqai, further complicating matters for researchers.

Exactly what will happen to Al Liby now is unclear.  Given that his alleged crimes – involvement in the 1998 embassy bombings plot – took place prior to the Military Commissions Act and the Patriot Act, it probably isn’t legal to try Al Liby via a military commission.  He had no role in 9/11, and whether he was still a member of LIFG when they reportedly joined forces with Al Qaeda in late 2007 is not known.  As such, he should be tried in a conventional criminal court with all the due process and protections of any ordinary alleged criminal.

Of course, he is a ‘terrorist’ and also quite probably an MI6 asset for at least part of his terrorist career, so his chances of an open court trial are pretty low.  Furthermore, the US authorities don’t want to open up the can of worms that is the West’s curiously flexible relationship with LIFG.  In the mid-late 1990s they were our friends as we tried to oust Gaddafi.  After 9/11 they were the enemy, though when Libyan intelligence chief Musa Kusa handed over a list of LIFG members living in London nothing was done.  As Britain cosied up to Gaddafi they also added LIFG to their list of banned terror groups, in exchange for Libya playing a role in the torture of ‘terror suspects’.  Then something changed, Gaddafi was the enemy again and LIFG were among the jihadis that NATO used to get rid of him.

What these two raids represent is an attempt to reconstruct the ‘war on terror’ narrative once again in the wake of the failure of those who wanted to see NATO invade Syria.  After 9/11 the predominant narrative was that there was a global paramilitary Islamist network protected by the governments of nations like Afghanistan and Iraq.  The narrative gradually changed, the popular view of Al Qaeda became more vague and decentralised, and the main enemy became rogue states, particularly those with WMD of some kind.  This fluctuation between state enemy images and stateless enemy images dominated the Cold War and has continued as the battle lines have been redrawn.

This process of shifting the ‘war on terror’ narrative culminated with the war in Libya, where one of the last Middle Eastern leaders to resist NATO’s imperial tyranny was removed from power by the very same Islamists who a decade earlier were NATO’s primary enemy image.  The same Islamists were then encouraged and helped to go to Syria to create a civil war there.  Now that the KGB have slammed the door shut on any escalation of the failed proxy civil war plan in Syria, NATO have been forced to back off.  Right on schedule we got another major terrorist attack that shifted the geographic and geopolitical focus and the terrorists who were our freedom fighters in Libya and Syria are now terrorists again. This was followed by a small scale but utterly lawless pair of commando strikes.

The moral of the story is not that one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter, but that in NATO’s case one man’s terrorists are the same man’s freedom fighters.
